Here is the amazing art of Jennifer Maestre: she really can take crayons to another dimension!
Here she is, at work in her atelier, stitching pencils together.
She says, about her art: "My sculptures were originally inspired by the form and function of the sea urchin. I’m inspired by animals, plants, other art, like Ernst Haeckel (see below!), Odilon Redon, and mythology".
"Industrially manufactured objects are used to create flexible forms reminiscent of the organic shapes of animals and nature. Pencils, common objects, become the structure. There is a true fragility to the sometimes brutal aspect of the sculptures, vulnerability that is belied by the fearsome texture."
